iF Design Awards 2017 March 14, 2017
Samsung Electronics received 49 awards, including one Gold, at the world renowned International Design Forum Awards 2017. The iF Design Award was initiated in 1953 under the supervision of the International Forum Design and serves as a comprehensive evaluation of design, material suitability and innovativeness across seven product categories: Product, Communication, Packaging, Concept, Interior Architecture, Service Design and Architecture.

Samsung received the Gold award in the Product category for the ‘ArtPC Pulse’, a premium desktop PC. ArtPC Pulse can be used by adding and removing functions based on the user’s needs, including HDD and 360-degree speaker by attaching an extra module. The rotary attachment and detachment structure is designed around a cylindrical shape with buttons and ports placed at the rear to give a premium feel to the minimal metallic body.

In addition, Samsung received awards for the ‘Galaxy S7 series’, which provides a comfortable grip using 3D forming glass, the ‘Galaxy C9 Pro’, a 6.9mm full-metal slim body premium smartphone for China, the premium ‘Gear S3’ smartwatch with an innovative round bezel and Circular UX, the ‘SUHD TV KS9500’ premium TV with its floating display and sleek metal frame that is beautiful from any angle, and the ‘Family Hub Refrigerator’ with its large full HD touch screen providing extra convenience and functionality. In total, over 35 different products were awarded.

In the Communication category, Samsung won seven awards including praise for their ‘SamsungOne Font’, providing users with a consistent and connected experience among various Samsung products and services, and also the ‘Samsung TV Design Story Kit’ which explains Samsung’s design philosophy within their TVs.


Among the Concept category, four concepts were awarded including the ‘Spatial UX’ home interface and interaction utilizing VR’s 3D space to improve content accessibility. Additionally three awards were given for Packaging category including the ‘Galaxy S7 Olympic Special Edition Package’ for its pouch concept.

BK Yoon, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics and the Head of Corporate Design Center at Samsung said, “Upgrading a product is easy but upgrading consumer lifestyles is difficult.” He said, “We will continue to strive for design that entertains and fulfills the lives of our consumers through consumer-focused innovation.”
