IDEA Design Awards 2015 August 26, 2015
Samsung Electronics has been recognized as this year’s ‘Most Awarded Company’ -and takes the honor for the ‘most’ awarded company in past five years-by world-renowned design competition ‘IDEA(International Design Excellence Awards) 2015, hosted by Industrial Designers Society of America(IDSA). Samsung has won total 8 awards (1 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 bronze) along with 31 Finalists in areas of TV, Refrigerator, Printer UX, Website Design, and etc.

First started in 1980, IDEA is one of the most influential design competition in Northern America and considers design innovation as its core standard.

This year’s Gold Award went to NX mini, a mirrorless camera with exchangeable lenses. NX mini is 22.5mm thick, 158g in weight. It boasts its easy portability and compatibility with 17 different types of lenses. Reinterpreting traditional camera with a modern twist, NX mini is a timeless piece.

Silver Awards went to Samsung Digital Home Appliance Design Philosophy Framework, WaterWall Dishwasher, and LED Flip Cover Wallet. In order to promote Samsung’s design philosophy, Samsung Digital Home Appliance Design Philosophy Framework has been constructed with a sentimental and relatable story for the consumers to understand via familiar media, such as videos and books. Sleek and modern metal design in style, WaterWall Dishwasher introduces convenient features such as removable trays and storage. LED Flip Cover Wallet is the world’s first cover that displays information and messages directly from the phone with LED.

The four Bronze Awards went to the following products: Gear VR, a wearable virtual reality (VR) headset that features easy touch pad maneuver, ergonomic design, and soft fabric cover adds the finishing touch. Wireless Audio-360 Portable, a wireless audio, delivers consistent sound 360 degrees. Its streamlined shape softly blends in with surrounding environment. A Personal Cooler features portability and no outdoor ventilation system. Black frontal glass with a slim bezel and a wide door with flushed handle, Hotblast™ Microwave Oven maximizes use of space.

Besides the above awarded products, 31 products have made it to the finalist and continue to deliver Samsung’s goal to create sustainable value and experiences among consumers’ lives.
