iF Design Awards 2020 February 12, 2020
Samsung Electronics received a total of 61 awards, including two gold awards, at the International Forum Design Award 2020 held in Germany. The iF Design Award is organized by the iF International Forum Design GmbH, and has been comprehensively evaluating design, innovation, and functionality in seven categories including product, package, communication, concept, service design, interior, and architecture.

Samsung Electronics won two gold awards in the product category this year. The customizable refrigerator ‘Bespoke’ was given the gold award for its modular design that allowed users to flexibly customize the refrigerator’s color, material, and type based on their lifestyles and preferences. The lifestyle TV ‘the Sero’ also won the gold award for its design that provided an optimal viewing experience of mobile contents through a large vertical screen that could also easily switch to a horizontal format.

Including the two gold awards, Samsung Electronics won 34 awards in the product category, for the foldable smartphone ‘Galaxy Fold’ that offers a new foldable experience, the ‘Galaxy Watch Active2’ that provides an even larger screen by applying a digital bezel, the ‘Samsung Space Monitor’ that frees up desk space using a clamp-type stand design, the ‘AirDresser’ that refreshes clothes and accentuates any space with beauty through the front full-length mirror highlighted with a pinstripe pattern and color gradation, and the ‘Samsung Induction The Plate’ that helps users cook directly from the kitchen or dining table using dual induction ranges that can be operated separately.

17 designs won in the communication category, including the ‘Galaxy Fold’s Foldable UX’ that offers seamless usability between the cover display and main display, the ‘Air Conditioner UX’ that emotionally conveys useful information using Ambient Lighting and movement, the ‘Samsung Flip UX’ that digitalizes the analog experience of using a flip chart for intuitive usability, the ‘Resonance’ exhibition at the Milan Design Week 2019 which highlighted Samsung’s design philosophy with the theme of ‘Resonance’.

In addition, 8 designs won in the concept category, such as the next generation wearable robot ‘GEMS’ that assists in posture correction and ‘Device Sync’ that supports connection between IoT devices using Vision Recognition and real-time Generative Visualization technologies. Lastly, the ‘Galaxy Fold Package’ that symbolically expressed the characteristics of a foldable smartphone through a new design of the Galaxy logo and the ‘Galaxy Note 10·10+ Package’ that removed unnecessary packaging materials and utilized environmentally-friendly pulp mold won in the packaging category.
