The concept of 'fire' has been extremely important in colder region's cultures and continues to do so. For many Russians, the act of using a wood-burning stove (pechka), or a traditional water boiler (samovar) has been treasured for many generations. Concerning the oven as a modern kitchen stove, the 'Retro' style is popular, holding 22 percent of the entire oven market in Russia. Samsung created the Retro Oven to emphasize the vintage feeling conveyed by Russia's unique cultural and environmental characteristics.

Samsung's Russia-specific oven reflects modernity combined with vintage sentiments. When Samsung designers explored Russia's cultural heritage, they noted that there was an emphasis on pragmatic value and decorative splendor. Samsung applied a 'Neo Retro' design concept that combined retro and classic design elements to the modern shapes. We developed our existing models by making changes in details such as color, decoration and graphic details to give the product an entirely new feeling.

The 'Copper Gold' accent color completes the image of the Neo Retro Oven, providing a warm feeling that is also representative of handmade objects. The luxurious color finish is enhanced by a matte luster to create an elegant texture. The color evokes the feeling of traditional kilns with a unique sensibility that can be felt by the fingers.

The analogue design of the knob dial evokes the nostalgia of turning a timer by hand. A rounded handle creates a feeling of completeness, existing in harmony with the oven's flat body. A large window reiterates the retro concept, using a solid soft gold outline color that differentiates from modern-style ovens.

Samsung's Neo Retro Oven uses Adobe Garamond, considered to be the perfect version of the Garamond typeface among contemporary adaptations. The icon graphic has been re-designed to harmonize with the historical typeface to create a soft, luxurious feel. The icon design solidifies the retro style, creating something distinctly different from conventional oven's icons.

The Neo Retro Oven's design does not simply take advantage of the past; rather it incorporates a sense of modern design to generate a new value for users. Using their existing modern designs as a starting point, Samsung began incorporating classic elements into their designs to create the Neo Retro Oven. The design does more than reflect Russia's characteristics in a functional way by demonstrating the designer's efforts to create a product that serves the region's cultures.
