Launched last March in the US, Milk Music is a radio streaming service that offers an intuitive, effortless and entertaining way to enjoy the music you love while also allowing for the discovery of new and unexpected music. The app was designed, developed, and productized by Samsung's User Experience team in California (UXCA & MSCA).
Seamless Music Discovery on the Go
Milk Music's distinctive dial design provides an intuitive and natural way to listen to music that feels more organic, like traditional radio. No need to browse through a long list of choices while thinking of a specific artist or song name, you can just start listening to music instantly scanning through the multitude of stations with a simple and quick turn of the dial. From Pop to Jazz and everything in between, Milk Music is designed with music discovery in mind. When you find a song you like, you can save it to your 'My Favorite' folder and continue to discover new music with suggestions for similar songs. Unlike other services, Milk offers human curated stations which are updated weekly, allowing for richer discovery. Milk Music radically rethinks traditional music apps, helping broaden people's musical taste by introducing the concept of random and unexpected discovery.
Intuitive Dial Design
Designed with an inner rim and outer rim, each turning at different speeds, the Dial offers responsive, haptic feedback as you turn it. You can literally "feel" where you are going and browse music without looking at your phone. The outer rim scans over music stations very quickly, while the inner rim is used for more precise scanning through stations. For example, if you are listening to FM radio, the outer rim jumps from 88.7 to 103 whereas the inner rim lets you go station by station moving from 88.7, 88.8 and to 88.9.
You can easily select the music genres that best match your musical tastes and remove those that don't, saving you even more time when browsing through the stations. Play music by using your ears, not your eyes, simply with just one hand.

Distinctive User Interface
The first impression of a user interface generally depends on its visual beauty. Yet once you focus too much on the style, it sometimes becomes an obstacle that gets in the way of the interface function. The GUI of Milk Music is expressed metaphorically as a dial, using a rainbow colored line that is both minimal and eye-catching to users. These rainbow colors also represent the identity of the service, which offers abundant content, as well as the splendor and mellowness of music. A semi-transparent layout was applied to the area surrounding the dial so that the user could easily recognize the current playlist, but at the same time, focus on the dial whenever they needed to use it.
More Personalized Radio
With a growing music catalog of 200 genre-based and curated stations, and 13million songs, Milk Music connects people with the best music, with significantly fewer repeats. In addition, the "Spotlight" feature offers a continuous curated selection of songs and albums handpicked by music tastemakers and influencers. "My Stations" allow you to create personal stations based on your favorite songs and albums, easily accessible on the dial, providing limitless listening options. Offering more personalization options, the "Fine-Tune Station" feature allows you to adjust the genre-based station based on popularity, novelty and song favorites to further optimize recommendations for the best listening experience.
