Galaxy XR, Samsung’s first Android XR device, presents a new way of living in the AI era. Ergonomic Design

Galaxy XR was designed with ergonomics and comfort in mind, enabling complete immersion in the XR experience. Since the device is worn over the head, its weight naturally shifts forward, pressing on the face and cheekbones. To minimize the weight of the device, Galaxy XR uses a lightweight display and front components, while separating the battery on a belt or in a pocket. This shifts the balance toward the back and top of the head. It creates a structure that supports the forehead and back of the head for a more comfortable fit, where the weight is evenly distributed across the head. Complex hardware is concealed at the back, giving the front a sleek, streamlined look.

Human-Centered Approach

Users should be able to experience immersion in any environment. To make this possible, continuous research and improvements were carried out from a human factors perspective, taking into account different body types and usage contexts. Extensive user testing and simulations were conducted to find a fit that would accommodate physical differences like race, gender, and head size. The result is a transformable device that can be adjusted according to individual physical characteristics.

The side bands are firm yet flexible to fit around the head, while the rear cushion also uses a hinge with resilient materials for flexible adjustment of width and angle. The distance between the device and the eyes or forehead can be adjusted with a spacer and a forehead cushion that comes in two sizes. All components are detachable for effortless cleaning and hygiene maintenance. With these details, the form factor makes it easy to stay comfortable and immersed.

Convenience across different situations was also carefully considered. The magnetic Light Shield lets users choose how they engage with the product, blocking external views when deeper immersion is desired, and enabling interactions with the real world when opened.

Silver Shadow Color

The Silver Shadow color embodies the deep, infinite universe and the mysteries beyond reality. By combining the solidity of the material with a color that subtly changes with the light, it conveys technical precision and innovation, while harmonizing with the silver tones of previously released smartphones, wearables, and laptops to deliver a consistent aesthetic across the Galaxy lineup.

Packaging as a Journey

The packaging of Galaxy XR allows users to perceive exploration and possibility in a visual way. Sketches of organic forms are featured on the front, intuitively expressing the Galaxy brand identity. Inside, a pulp mold resembling an exhibition stand adds to the joy of opening the box and keeps product accessories neatly organized.
